Have you reached a “brick wall” in your genealogy research? Onsite genealogy research in Hungary may just be the key to extending your Hungarian ancestry. We have genealogists in Hungary that can help!
Challenges in Hungarian Genealogy Research
Hungarian genealogy utilizes civil registration and church records—in either case, the exact town of origin needs to be determined first. While the vast majority of church records (pre 20th-century) have been digitized and made available online, there are some records still held by the local parish priests. These are generally easier to access than civil records, especially in the 20th century. Most civil registry records from the 20th century are still held at the local office, and require our onsite researcher to present a power of attorney and documents proving how the client is related to the ancestor of interest to obtain them.
Our Team of Professional Genealogists Can Help
If you have Hungarian ancestry, our professionals can track down the city/town of origin of your ancestors, determine where that location actually is today, and identify where the records for that place are currently kept. For those areas that don’t have records available online, our onsite agents can then visit that location to obtain any documents that are needed.
