Karina's interest in genealogy began just after both of her parents died. It was then, as she was going through their belongings, that she realized how little she knew of their lives or family histories. Since that time she discovered (and has since visited) her mother's first cousins in Sweden. And, through DNA testing, she learned that one of her grandparents was not who they thought they were, leading back to an entirely unexpected country in Europe.
For Karina, the draw of genealogy rests in the fact that through mindful and thorough research, we are able to connect people to their familial pasts, pasts which may have been lost over time, or perhaps never even known.
