Our genealogists will be happy to assist you with your Spanish genealogy research.
At Legacy Tree, we have the opportunity and privilege to work with clients and researchers all over the world. Through these opportunities we have become well acquainted with some of the common research challenges that our Spanish-speaking clients face.
Using Records in Spanish Genealogy Research
While you may speak Spanish, your ancestors may not have, or the records kept about them may be in different languages. We can assist in locating, transcribing and translating documents in many different foreign languages.
Though more and more resources for genealogy research are digitized every day, many of these records are not yet indexed. Even when they are indexed, they may not be paired against original images of the documents.
Some records are only accessible through subscription databases; others may be available in microfilm or print formats; and still many more are only available at onsite locations. We can assist in obtaining copies of original documents that are available in locations all over the world.
Tracing Immigrant Ancestors
Another common challenge is determining the place of origin of your immigrant ancestors.
If you go back far enough in almost any family tree, you’ll learn that at some point your ancestors came from another place. We have many researchers who specialize in locating the ancestral villages and hometowns of immigrant ancestors from areas all over the world. They are familiar with the methodologies and resources that need to be used to explore those relationships and make sure the correct connections are made.
Spanish Genealogy Research for Dual Citizenship
Finally, many of our Spanish clients contact us requesting assistance in evaluating their eligibility and locating the documentation necessary for dual citizenship in another country.
We can assist in these efforts, but it should be noted that requirements vary depending on a variety of factors, and this is generally a time consuming undertaking, with no guarantee of success. However, it can be very rewarding as well, as the process of working on obtaining dual citizenship also helps you learn more details about your ancestors’ lives.
