Christy has been a professional genealogist for twenty years. Her education background is in writing and history, which leads to a natural love of telling an ancestor’s story.
Specialties
Christy’s research expertise places a particular emphasis on countries of the former British Empire, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, Canada, Australia, and the Caribbean.
Experience
Christy began her research journey in reconstructing families in the Southern United States using land, tax, and court records to piece together the puzzle, which naturally led to tracing Scots-Irish families into Ireland and Scotland. Christy’s favorite projects are those that require the use of indirect evidence—analyzing and compiling individual small pieces of evidence to draw a conclusion when no piece of evidence directly states an answer. Those brick walls don’t stand a chance!
Christy is the former editor of the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly and the former director of the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. She has two teenage children who often get roped into research assisting at the Family History Library fetching books and marking pages for review.
