Using British Military Records in Genealogy Research
If you have ancestors from the United Kingdom in your family heritage, British military records can be an important part of your genealogy research because they not only provide details about the military service itself, but they might also provide genealogical details not found in other records. Military service was often a lifetime career, with the officers being members of the upper-class (they could purchase a position rather than starting at the bottom and working their way up), and the soldiers being from the lower classes. Obtaining British Military Records
Most British military records are kept at the National Archives at Kew.
