As a professional genealogist and editor, Vanessa earned a Certificate in DNA and Genetic Genealogy from the International Institute of Genealogical Studies and completed Boston University’s Genealogical Principles Program. She is also an alumna of the GenProof and ProGen Study Groups, and has continued to develop her expertise through academic courses focused on topics including:

Vanessa enjoys answering client’s life-long questions about their missing or unknown ancestors by using traditional genealogical research coupled with DNA analysis. Also, her editing skills ensure that every project, from complex genealogical analyses to family trees, is polished and accurate. Whether researching or fine-tuning written content, Vanessa’s dedication to quality shines through in every aspect of her work, and she is affiliated with the Association of Professional Genealogists, underscoring her commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in her work. Vanessa joined Legacy Tree Genealogists in 2024 after several years of working with genealogy clients as an independent genealogical researcher and search angel. A former legal assistant and researcher with 15 years of experience, she has experience tackling complex research problems and has logged countless hours researching on-site in courthouses. She and her husband, both seventh generation Georgians, have one daughter, and live in the same southern Georgia area where their ancestors settled in the late eighteen century.
