Sarah Busse Spencer grew up with a genealogist mother who inspired her with a lifelong love of family history. Her first essay in high school was “A Name, A Date, A Place,” summarizing what she knew about her family history at the time. She started with Legacy Tree in 2025 after a career teaching sociology and social history. This background in historical context makes it way into all her genealogy research. Her own ancestors come from the British Isles and from German speaking regions (from Stuttgart to Konigsberg). Every week at LTG she reads historical documents in at least three languages, sometimes as many as eight different languages a week! She has a strong background in German and Russian which makes reading Polish, Latin, Lithuanian, Estonian, Hungarian and Swedish a bit easier. If there is free time after research, she spends it with her living family enjoying orchestra concerts and local theater.
