Caleb Anderson’s fascination with genealogy began with a teenage interest in murder mysteries and other detective stories. After coming across some old family charts and documents handed down by his great-grandparents, he realized that genealogy provided a real-world opportunity to put those techniques into action!
Education and Training
Caleb’s passion for genealogy led him to pursue higher education with a masters degree in Genealogical, Palaeographic, and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. While at Strathclyde, Caleb completed a dissertation
focused on the Guion Miller roll, an important group of documents related to Native American genealogy, which explored a variety of families who claimed Cherokee heritage – as it turned out, some had it and some didn’t!
Specialties
Caleb’s primary genealogical specialty is genetic genealogy. He was converted after using DNA to solve a decades-old family mystery on his paternal line, one that revealed the true origins of his great-grandfather and took him from the 1800s in Oklahoma back to the early 1600s in Alsace, on the border of France and Germany. In addition to working with DNA and some Native American research, Caleb’s specializations include British research (focusing both on more recent history but also working back into the medieval period), Scandinavian, and Central European research. Specialties: Genetic Genealogy, British Isles, Native American, Scandinavia, Central Europe, medieval genealogy
