German Immigrants in American Church Records

December 28, 2015 by Legacy Tree Genealogists 6 Comments

If your family tree has German immigrants, include American church records in your genealogy research efforts.  Do you have German ancestors who lived in the Midwest? Were they Protestants? If you answered yes to those questions, then you need to know about the German Immigrants in American Church Records (GIACR) series. Compiled by Dr. Roger P. Minert of Brigham Young University, the first volume of the series was published in 2005 and has since expanded to include 18 volumes, the most … [Read more...]

We asked Helena, one of our onsite researchers from the Czech Republic to share an inside look at genealogy research at the Chodovec Archive Complex in Prague.    At the outskirts of Prague, you can find a giant building complex housing three large archives – three genealogical eggs in one basket! Completed in 2001, it has research rooms, conference halls, exhibition areas and … [Read more...]

Bringing Danish Ancestry To Life

September 4, 2015 by Legacy Tree Genealogists 7 Comments

This personal experience from a genealogist at Legacy Tree shares how finding records from her family history brought her Danish ancestry to life.  In a town close to where I live is a humble little 14’x18’ log cabin built in 1855. It was one of the first permanent structures in its community, and, as it happens, was the home of my great-great-great-grandparents, Wilhelm and Laura Amelia Knudsen. Laura gave birth to six of her thirteen children in that house. While over the years the log … [Read more...]

Legacy Tree Onsite: A Look at the Archive of Potenza, Italy

July 17, 2015 by Legacy Tree Genealogists 15 Comments

Legacy Tree works with researchers all over the world to access records. We asked Valerie, of Italy's Basilicata region, to talk about her experience at the Province of Potenza Archives. Hidden in a nondescript building on a steep side street in Potenza, you could walk past the archives building without even realizing it was there. In fact, on the first visit I had to look hard and ask three people on the street where it was! Each Italian region is broken into provinces, and each … [Read more...]

These are the resources you've been searching for to trace your French ancestry! Use the tools professional genealogists use to break through century-old brick walls.  One of the greatest challenges in tracing immigrant ancestors is determining their town of origin in the home country. Some records may provide clues of their nationality or ethnicity, but narrowing the search further can be difficult. In preparation for an upcoming heritage tour to his ancestral homeland, our client enlisted our help to learn more about his Italian immigrant ancestors. One of my favorite things about being a Project Manager for Legacy Tree Genealogists is witnessing how our work directly affects our clients. Using onsite researchers, Legacy Tree Genealogists were able to help a client discover Lithuanian family history records. Perhaps hiring a genealogist will help you break through your genealogy brick walls.  As a Project Manager with Legacy Tree Genealogists, I often find myself just as anxious as the client is to get a report back from a researcher and find out what was discovered. I really care about each and every project, and love that we have such amazing researchers who do such great … [Read more...]
